The HOA of my condo just raised the monthly fees. There are areas of the property that flood every time the sprinklers go on, sidewalks in disrepair, gardeners who are contracted to mow the grass every week but only do it every two if they feel like it, lighting that has been out for months, stairs covered in moss that create a slipping hazard for residents, cars have been stolen due to a constantly malfunctioning security gate, and there are diseased trees and bushes all around the property. Complaints fall on deaf ears, but if you’re late with payments that should be addressing all of these issues, you get nailed with late fees and possible court action.

I'm sick of hearing about homeowners not knowing their homes can be taken by HOA's. If a person doesn't pay their rent they get evicted. If you don't pay what the HOA says your suppose to pay you can loose your home. Its not rocket science. There's no outrage when a person gets evicted...their shouldn't be outrage when a person who lives in a hoa has their home foreclosed on by a HOA.

But the flip side of the coin is, I have had neighbors that have literally turned their yard into a dump, overflowing dumpster, mattresses and garbage piled against the side of the garage, encroaching on our property line. I've never lived in HOA, but isn't there an annual meeting or something? Can people not vote and have a say on how their HOA is run?
